Taking the chill off with Conestoga Huts

Have you seen huts like these located on Rees Street here in Walla Walla? This photo shows the huts used in Eugene, Oregon where they were designed and have been in use since 2014.

Today, they are used at the Sleeping Center that is managed by the Alliance for the Homeless. Thirty-one Conestoga huts form the backbone of the Sleeping Center. The huts are 6 feet by 10 feet inside with standing head room, and have a covered porch. The door is lockable, providing privacy as well as an important measure of safety. An operable window in the rear wall provides ventilation. The huts are completely weatherproof, even in strong winds, heavy rain or snow. They are insulated on all sides, but not heated.

We're very happy to have worked with the people at Community Supported Shelters to design the Sleeping Center, and If you'd like more see them up close and personal, stop by the Sleeping Center any day after 6pm.
