Have you ever heard someone make a disparaging remark about a homeless person being dirty? Well, it’s true. Most homeless people are dirty and many smell bad. Any of us, without housing, would be dirty. We would sleep on the ground or on a bench. We would try to clean up using a sink in a public restroom. Of course, we would be dirty! The luxury of being clean is denied most homeless citizens. How can we help? Beginning shortly after Thanksgiving, Walla Walla Alliance for the Homeless, in partnership with Pioneer United Methodist Church, will offer shower services for homeless people during and after the Monday lunch service at the church. Sign-ups will be available beginning at 11:15 and shower time will be offered from 11:30-1:30. Other dates, times and places will be added as the demand is determined. Donations of towels and hotel-sized soaps and shampoos are gratefully accepted. To donate, please email showers@WWAlliancefortheHomeless.org or call 541.203.0112.
